USA Currently Favoured To Win Over Japan

The finals of the 2015 Women's World Cup, which will be taking place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, will see the favoured USA team take on the defending champions, Japan.

The United States earned their spot in the finals by defeating Germany 2-0, while Japan managed to squeak by England 2-1 after the English team scored an own goal in the dying minutes of the game. The result is the same, however, and Japan will certainly take that bit of good luck as they head into the finals against the United States.

The biggest story of this tournament so far has been the defense of the United States. The American side has been virtually unbeatable, allowing just 1 goal over the course of the entire tournament. That goal, in fact, came during the team's very first game against Australia, which they eventually won 3-1.

If the Japanese team is able to penetrate the US defense, they will need to get the ball past Hope Solo, who, despite her personal troubles, is still the top talent in women's soccer when it comes to goaltenders.

In short - Japan's biggest issue is going to be putting one by the USA defense, which is certainly not going to be an easy task.

Here are the current betting odds as of this moment:

USA, 1.80
Draw, 3.50
Japan, 4.00

According to these odds, USA has a 55.56% chance of winning outright, while the Japanese team has a 25% chance of winning the tournament in regular time.

The United States will have the benefit of playing in front of a largely partisan crowd, as Vancouver sits just one hour away from the US/Canada border.

Japan, on the other hand, are the defending champions, and they will be playing with the confidence of a defending champion when they take to the field on Sunday.

Can the United States post yet another clean sheet? Can the defending champions slip one by the US defense? Will the Japanese team get another piece of fortunate luck when they take on the Americans?
