The UEFA Champions League top goalscorer odds - Illustration with text. It is hard to hide the excitement about the Champions League being back this week. The first knockout round starts this Tuesday and the football's brightest stars, as well as the fans from around the world, are ready for action. Let's see where we left things off before the winter break when it comes to scoring goals.

A total of 306 goals have been scored so far in the tournament over 96 matches, which equates to 3.19 goals per match.

The current top goalscorers are:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo - Real Madrid - 9
2. Neymar - PSG - 6
3. Roberto Firmino - Liverpool - 6
4. Harry Kane - Tottenham - 6
5. Edinson Cavani - PSG - 6
6. Wissam Ben Yedder - Sevilla - 6
7. Philippe Coutinho - 5
8. Vincent Aboubakar - Porto - 5
9. Mohamed Salah - Liverpool - 5
10. Kylian Mbappe - PSG - 4

Cristiano Ronaldo (no surprise there) has been the dominant figure when it comes to scoring goals up to this point in the season. With 9 Champions League goals to his name, he is already 3 goals ahead of Neymar, Firmino, Kane and Cavani. Ronaldo is also the record holder when it comes to goals scored in a full Champions League season - 17, a feat he accomplished in 2013/14. Ronaldo is also the holder of the 2nd best finish - 16 goals in 2015/16. It should be noted that in the domestic league Ronaldo has hit a dry patch this year and his club Real Madrid have been struggling as of late. To make things more difficult, Real are facing Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16, a matchup in which they are the underdogs. Will Ronaldo be able to hold onto his goal lead remains to be seen.
