For instance - let's say that the Dallas Mavericks are up 3-1 against the Golden State Warriors in the playoffs.

Game 5 would be a closeout game for the Dallas Mavericks, as they would have the chance to send the Golden State Warriors home and "close out" the series.

If the Warriors win Game 5, then Game 6 of the series would also be a closeout game, but just for the Mavericks, as the Mavericks could send the Warriors home with a win in Game 6, but not vice versa.

A Game 7 would be a closeout game for BOTH teams, as a win for either team would send the other one home.
