Shane Mosley Favorite To Beat Mayorga

"Sugar" Shane Mosley will be the favorite when he takes on Ricardo Mayorga on August 29th at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Mosley will take a 47-9-1 record into this fight. Mosley made his professional debut over 20 years ago and continues to step into the ring. Mosley only has one win in his last six fights, though two of those fights have been against two of the best fighters in the world, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. In his last fight, which took place in the fall of 2013, Mosley was knocked out by Anthony Mundine in the seventh round. Can Mosley get back on track against Mayorga?

Mayorga is also getting long in the tooth, as he was born in 1973. Mayorga is 3-1 in his last four fights, with wins coming against Andrik Saralegui, Allen Medina and Michael Walker. Mayorga's loss during this time came against Miguel Cotto.

As mentioned, Mosley is the clear favorite to win - here are the current betting odds:

Shane Mosley, -550
Ricardo Mayorga, +350

According to these odds, Mosley has a 84.75% chance of winning, while Mayorga has about a 22.22% chance of winning.

To be honest, there are a number of question marks in this fight. How will Mosley look after nearly two years out of the game? After all, he is well past the age of 40 - taking two years off at that age is probably not the best look for a professional boxer.

On the other hand, Mayorga is also over the age of 40, which makes this fight much more intriguing. Is Mosley a favorite to win? There is no doubt? Is he a -550 favorite to win? Now that is debatable, in my opinion.
