NFL is very serious with the enforcement of their gambling policy. Earlier today, the NFL surprised everyone when they revealed that they have suspended Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley for the entirety of the 2022 NFL season.

According to reports, Ridley bet on NFL games over a 5-day period in November of 2021, while he was sitting out due to mental health issues.

The NFL became aware of this betting activity and enlisted investigators to look into the situation.

The NFL apparently received concrete evidence of Ridley's betting and elected to suspend him for the upcoming season.

According to reports, Ridley did not bet on any Atlanta Falcons games.

With this suspension, Calvin Ridley becomes the fifth NFL player to be suspended for gambling.

In 1963, both Alex Karras and Paul Hornung were suspended by the league for one season after admitting to betting on NFL games.

In 1983, the NFL elected to suspend Art Schlichter for 13 months after he admitted that he had a gambling addiction and had bet on NFL games. Schlichter was in so deep to bookies that he worried that he would be asked to throw games and enlisted the help of both the FBI and NFL.

In 2019, the NFL suspended Josh Shaw indefinitely after it was revealed that he had bet on NFL games. Shaw was reinstated on March 20th, 2021.

With his suspension earlier today, Calvin Ridley has become just the fifth NFL player to be suspended due to gambling on NFL games.

According to reports, other NFL teams were inquiring about trading for Ridley, though the Falcons held off, knowing that this decision was likely coming down.
