UEFA Champions League - Group G Permutations - Chelsea vs. Porto - 09/12/2015

One of the most interesting matchups in the last round of UEFA Champions League group stage is Chelsea vs. Porto. The game will be played on Wednesday, December 9th, 2015 at Stamford Bridge in London.

This is how things look in Group G:

Chelsea - 10pts
Porto - 10pts
Dynamo Kyiv - 8pts
Maccabi - 0pts

Earlier in the season Dynamo Kyiv beat Maccabi 0-2 away and the odds are they will beat them again at home and finish the group with 11 points.

If indeed Dynamo Kyiv win and Chelsea beat Porto at home on Wednesday, the London side will advance to the knockout rounds along with the Ukrainians. If Porto beat Chelsea, then they would be the ones advancing to the next round instead.

If Dynamo beat Maccabi and Chelsea and Porto draw then things get complicated as all three would have 11 points each.

The next thing UEFA would look at to determine who advances is the following:

It looks as Porto's 0-2 home loss to Dynamo from a couple of weeks ago could be extremely costly for the Portuguese side.





To sum it all up, if Dynamo Kyiv win on Wednesday they advance to the Round of 16 for sure. Chelsea advance to the round of 16 with a win or a draw.

Porto will need a win to make sure they qualify to the round of 16.
