Thanks to the upcoming New Year celebrations, La Liga will be hosting a slate of games on Wednesday, December 30th. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are currently battling for the top spot in the table, will be in action on Wednesday.

Here are the standings at the top of the table as of this moment:

Barcelona, 11-2-2, 35 points
Atletico Madrid, 11-2-3, 35 points
Real Madrid, 10-3-3, 33 points

*Note: Barcelona has played one less game than both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid will be playing a home game against Real Sociedad on Thursday, while Atletico Madrid will be on the road against Rayo Vallecano and Barcelona will be playing host to Real Betis.

It goes without saying that Real Madrid needs a full three points on Thursday, or else they risk completely falling off in the race for the La Liga title. Barcelona can't be expected to drop many points, especially given the way that they have played so far this season, so Real Madrid will need to be almost flawless in the second half of the season in order to catch up.

Here are the odds for Wednesday's contest as of this moment:

Real Madrid, 1.12
Draw, 9.00
Real Sociedad, 17.00

According to these odds, Real Madrid should win this contest almost 90% of the time, while Real Sociedad has virtually no chance of winning, at least in the eyes of the bookmakers.

According to William Hill, the two likeliest outcomes of Wednesday's match between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad are 3-0 and 4-0 victories for Real Madrid. If you are a Real Sociedad supporter, you may want to resign yourself to a loss on Thursday, as the bookmakers don't feel like there is much of a chance at all of Real Sociedad winning.

Real Madrid is expected to have their full compliment of talent playing on Wednesday - Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale all have better than 2.00 odds of scoring.
