🎯 Wide Open Handicap Kicks Off Royal Ascot's Stamina Tests

The first staying handicap of Royal Ascot week rarely disappoints, and the 2025 edition of the Ascot Stakes looks like another deep and wide-open renewal. Set to go off over 2m4f on Tuesday afternoon, the race is always a fascinating tactical battle, attracting proven jumpers, flat stayers, and everything in between.

Looking at the early market, three horses are locked together at the top at 8.00: East India Dock, Poniros, and Reaching High. All three bring different profiles into the race and are bound to attract plenty of attention in the build-up.

Just behind them at 12.00, Caballo De Mar could be one to catch the eye, while Manxman and Too Bossy For Us are both currently trading at 14.00. That trio brings a mix of solid handicap form and potential upside.

The next wave of contenders features several at 18.00, including Liari, Robbies Rock, Ascending, Zoffee, and Mr Percy. That group represents a mix of experience and unexposed types - exactly what you'd expect from this kind of test.

Others near the top include Godsend, Mordor, Alphonse Le Grande, and Mr Hampstead, all priced at 22.00. Throw in Trooper Bisdee at the same price, and it's clear the mid-range prices are stacked with live chances.

The market then gets even more congested at 27.00, where you'll find no fewer than nine runners: Comfort Zone, Dawn Rising, Nurburgring, Artistic Star, Common Practice, Divine Comedy, Saturn, Charlus, Contacto, and Leinster.

Things get even more competitive in the 35.00 to 42.00 range. Horses like Gentleman Joe, Pappano, Kyle Of Lochalsh, Wild Waves, Woot City, and Barnso are all in that mix. Ndaawi is also listed at 35.00, and Feigning Madness, Align The Stars, and Jabbar are each 42.00.

Further down the board, we start getting into the longshots. All In You, San Salvador, Caprelo, and Youthful King all sit at 52.00, while Lieber Power and Colonia Victoria are priced at 68.00, alongside Brave Knight and Scottish Anthem.

At the tail end of the market are Molten Sea at 82.00, and two rank outsiders: Vischio and Alcaraz, both listed at 102.00.

With 30+ names already in the mix and more likely to join as declarations firm up, the 2025 Ascot Stakes looks to be a war of attrition - and a dream for each-way backers. As always with this race, stamina, track position, and a well-timed ride are everything.

No standouts. No certainties. Just a long, grueling test to kickstart the stayers' week at Ascot.
