Switzerland soccer player - Xherdan Shaqiri - In action for his country. Eight European nations will essentially come to a halt later this week, as the remaining four UEFA World Cup spots are going to be handed out.

There are four playoff matches this week that will determine which teams head to the World Cup in Russia, and which teams head home.

One of these matches will pit Switzerland against Northern Ireland.

Thursday's match will take place at Windsor Park in Belfast, while the return engagement on Sunday will take place in Switzerland.

Switzerland is seen as the clear favourite to secure the World Cup spot, as they are currently 1.36 to qualify as of this moment, while Northern Ireland is listed at 3.25.

Here are the odds for Thursday's game in Northern Ireland:

Switzerland, 2.25
Draw, 3.00
Northern Ireland, 3.5

Here are the three likeliest scores:

Switzerland 1-0, 5.5
Draw 0-0, 6.00
Draw 1-1, 6.00

The first and last results would be disastrous for Northern Ireland, as they desperately want to avoid giving up a goal at home to Switzerland.

It will take quite a bit for Northern Ireland to surprise in this contest, though they have certainly do so before.
