According to the bookmakers, Germany and the United States are the two clear favourites to win the Women's World Cup, which is currently taking place in Canada.

Germany announced that they were going to be a very tough out in the tournament when they blasted Ivory Coast 10-0 in their opening game. The United States, on the other hand, needed a bit of time to settle down before besting a spirited team from Australia 3-1.

Germany is playing in an extremely weak group (Group B) that includes teams from Norway, Thailand and the Ivory Coast. There is no question that Germany will move on from this Group - the only question, perhaps, is whether they will allow a goal during Group play.

The United States, on the other hand, is in a slightly tougher group that includes Nigeria, Sweden and Australia. Having said that, nobody expects that the United States will drop a game during Group play.

The general consensus seems to be that it will be Germany and the United States in the Finals, though the teams from countries such as Brazil and Canada will certainly be hoping to throw a wrench into those plans.

As mentioned, Germany is the current favourite to win the tournament, as they are currently listed at 9/4. The United States, on the other hand, is currently listed at 11/4 to win.

Here are some of the other teams that are seen as having reasonable chances of winning the event:

France, 7/1
Brazil, 8/1
Canada, 9/1
Japan, 10/1
Sweden, 16/1
Norway, 20/1
England, 25/1

Canada, which is the host nation, struggled in their opening round game against China. Brazil and France, on the other hand, play their first games later in the week.

A "dutching" bet on both Germany and the United States would produce a ROI of nearly 75%.
