Portugal against Spain, in the Round of 16, at Dallas Stadium. There is no bigger tie left in this half of the draw. It is the Iberian derby on the biggest stage, it may well be Cristiano Ronaldo's last World Cup dance, and it pits the tournament's meanest defence, a Spain side that has not conceded a single goal, against a Portugal team that keeps finding a way. It kicks off on Monday 6 July in Arlington, Texas. This is our plain-English guide to betting the match with Bet365: how both teams got here, what the odds are saying, the welcome offer for new customers, and what every bettor should keep in mind before staking anything.

There is no shortage of places to bet on a World Cup, and I am not here to oversell any of them. The aim is a clear, honest picture so you can make your own call. I use Bet365 as the reference throughout because it is one of the most widely used bookmakers in the world and its World Cup coverage is about as deep as it gets. None of this is a guarantee of anything, and the only sensible way to bet is inside a budget you set before you start.

Portugal vs Spain: a Round of 16 tie at Dallas Stadium

First the basics. Portugal and Spain meet in the Round of 16 on Monday 6 July at Dallas Stadium, also known as AT&T Stadium, in Arlington, Texas, over 90 minutes plus stoppage time, with extra time and penalties waiting if the score is level. Spain arrive as winners of Group H, Portugal as runners-up in Group K, and the winner goes through to the quarter-finals. The history between these two is rich: they drew 3-3 in one of the great group-stage games at the 2018 World Cup, and Portugal beat Spain in the final of the 2025 UEFA Nations League. A neighbours' derby, a knockout, and a place in the last eight on the line. It does not get much bigger.

How Portugal got here

Portugal have not always been smooth, but they are still standing. Roberto Martínez's side finished second in Group K, behind Colombia, with a 1-1 draw against the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a 5-0 thrashing of Uzbekistan, and a tight 0-0 with Colombia. Then came a proper test in the Round of 32 against Croatia, and Portugal answered it, coming from behind to win 2-1. Cristiano Ronaldo levelled from the penalty spot and Gonçalo Ramos headed the winner, with a late Croatia equaliser ruled out to send the Seleção through.

The story around Portugal is impossible to ignore. This is almost certainly Ronaldo's final World Cup, and the squad around him is loaded: Bruno Fernandes and Vitinha in midfield, Rafael Leão and Bernardo Silva out wide, Gonçalo Ramos leading the line, and Rúben Dias marshalling the back. They have not hit top gear yet, but they have the individual quality to beat anyone on a given night, and a derby against Spain is exactly the sort of occasion that tends to bring the best out of them.

How Spain got here

Spain have looked like the team to beat. Luis de la Fuente's side won Group H without conceding a single goal, a 0-0 draw with Cape Verde, a comprehensive win over Saudi Arabia, and a 1-0 victory over Uruguay to top the group. In the Round of 32 they were even better, brushing Austria aside 3-0 with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring twice either side of a Pedro Porro strike. A clean sheet, again.

What makes Spain so hard to play is the balance. Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal provides the spark from the right, Pedri and Rodri control the tempo in midfield, Nico Williams stretches defences on the left, and the whole side keeps the ball as well as any team in the world. Add a defence that has yet to be breached in this tournament and you have the reigning European champions playing with real authority. If Portugal are going to win this, they will have to do something no team has managed all tournament: score against Spain.

What the odds are telling us

Bet365 make Spain the favourites, but this is closer than a lot of the ties left in the draw. Here is how the main prices looked at the time of writing.
Full-time result (90 mins)
Portugal3.75
Draw3.70
Spain1.90
To qualify (extra time and penalties included)
Portugal2.62
Spain1.50
How to read these decimal odds: for every 10 you stake, a price of 1.90 on Spain returns 19.00 in total if it wins, your stake included. Spain are favourites in the 90-minute market and shorter still to qualify at 1.50, while Portugal at 2.62 to win outright, or 2.62 to qualify, is a genuine price for a side with this much firepower. The draw at 3.70 is worth a glance too, in a derby that could easily be settled by fine margins or go the distance.

The goals markets are almost perfectly balanced. Over/Under 2.5 came in as a coin flip, with both the Over and the Under priced at 1.90, and Both Teams to Score sat at 1.80 for Yes and 1.95 for No. Translated: the book cannot separate a tight, low-scoring derby from an open one, which makes sense given Portugal's attacking talent against a Spain side that simply has not conceded. If you lean towards Spain keeping another clean sheet, the Under and the No on both teams to score are the read; if you think Portugal's forwards finally breach them, the goals lines are there.

There were no shortage of player and Bet Boost markets on the match either, built around the obvious names, Yamal, Ronaldo, Oyarzabal and the rest, but those move fast, so check the board when you get there. One honest warning, and it matters: these odds move. They shift with team news, with the money coming in, and with time, so the number you see now may not be the one at kick-off. Treat all of the above as a snapshot, not a fixed price.

The Bet365 welcome offer for new customers

If you are new to Bet365, a welcome offer may be available to eligible new customers. The offer type, value and currency vary depending on where you are, and a minimum deposit, a qualifying bet, minimum odds and time limits may apply. Where the offer is credited as Bet Credits or Bonus Bets, those are used to place bets on the site; they are non-withdrawable, and when a bet placed with them wins, the returns exclude that stake. It is worth reading the full current terms for your location before you deposit. The bonus code THEKING is applied automatically through the link and is not required to claim any offer.

What Bet365 offers for the World Cup

Beyond the welcome offer, the reason Bet365 is a common choice for a tournament is the sheer breadth of what is on the board once the matches start.

Depth of markets

For a match like this you are not stuck with the result alone. You will usually find Asian handicaps, goal totals and alternative lines, both teams to score, correct score, first and anytime goalscorer, first-half markets and a long list of player props. For anyone following one team through a knockout run, that depth lets you bet the game the way you actually see it.

Same-game parlays and Bet Boosts

Pre-built same-game parlays, shown as SGP or bet builder, let you combine several outcomes from the same match into a single bet, for example Spain to qualify and under 2.5 goals. The potential return is higher because you are stacking conditions, but so is the risk, because every selection has to land. Bet Boosts are enhanced prices Bet365 puts up on selected bets.

In-play and Cash Out

In-play betting lets you bet while the match is happening, with odds moving in real time. Cash Out, where offered, lets you close a bet before the end to lock in a partial return or limit a loss. For a knockout tie that can swing on a single moment, these are useful tools, as long as you keep a cool head.

What every bettor should know

Before you stake anything, a few simple reminders worth more than any tip:
  • Set a budget first. Decide what you are willing to risk before you start, and stick to it whatever the score.
  • Odds are not promises. A favourite at 1.50 still loses plenty of the time, and Portugal beat Spain in a final barely a year ago.
  • Shop the markets, not just the result. Sometimes the value is in a total, a handicap or a player market, not the outright winner.
  • Know when to stop. If betting stops being fun, that is the signal to pull back. Support is available, and the details are below.
The Sports-King Note. The honest answer to where to bet on Portugal vs Spain is that the best bookmaker is the one properly licensed and available where you live, that covers the markets you actually care about, and that you can use with discipline inside a fixed budget. Bet365 covers the World Cup in full. The discipline is on you. Pick your moments, stake what you planned, and enjoy an Iberian derby for the ages, whatever the result.
