How to Bet on the World Cup 2026: The Complete Guide for England Fans

The World Cup 2026 kicks off on 11 June with 48 teams and 104 matches across three countries, and England arrive with a perfect qualifying record, a settled manager and a squad most nations would trade for. If you are working out where to bet on the World Cup and how the odds, markets and offers actually work, this guide pulls everything together in one place.

Below: where to bet on the World Cup from the UK, how to read both fractional and decimal odds, the seven bet types you will use most this summer including the 90-minute rule that catches people out every knockout round, England's full Group L schedule in UK time, and the details of bet365's offer for new customers.

Where to Bet on the World Cup 2026

For British bettors this is the rare question with a tidy answer. Bet365 is the largest British-born bookmaker in the world - founded in Stoke-on-Trent and still headquartered there - and holds a full licence from the UK Gambling Commission, the British regulator. There is no grey area and no workaround required: it is a domestic, fully regulated product.

For the World Cup that means coverage of all 104 matches, in-play betting on every fixture, Bet Builders for same-game combinations, live streaming of selected events, and the cash out feature that lets you settle a bet before the final whistle. It is the same account you would use for the Premier League, the races and everything else through the year - the tournament simply lands inside it.

The Bet365 Offer for New Customers

Bet365's open account offer for new UK customers is Bet £10 & Get £30 in Free Bets. The mechanics are straightforward: register, make a qualifying deposit, place £10 of qualifying bets at odds of 1/5 (1.20) or greater, and £30 in Free Bets is credited once those bets settle. The Free Bets are paid as Bet Credits; returns from bets placed with them exclude the Bet Credits stake.

One thing you do not need to worry about: the bonus code THEKING is applied automatically when you register through our link and is not necessary to receive the offer. The steps:

How to Bet on the World Cup: Reading the Odds

British betting still speaks two languages, and bet365 lets you display either. Fractional odds - 6/4, 11/8, 5/1 - show your profit relative to your stake: 6/4 means £6 profit for every £4 staked, so a £10 bet returns £25 in total. Decimal odds show the total return per pound staked: that same price reads as 2.50, meaning a £10 bet returns £25 including your stake. Decimal is the default for most markets these days and makes comparison easier; fractional is tradition. They are the same number wearing different clothes.

A useful habit: odds imply a probability. Divide 100 by the decimal price - 2.00 implies 50%, 4.00 implies 25%. Add up the implied percentages across all outcomes of a match and you will get a touch over 100; that overage is the bookmaker's margin.

The 7 World Cup Bet Types

1. Match result (1X2). The classic: home win, draw, away win. Mind the 90-minute rule: in the knockout rounds this market settles on the result after normal time. If a match goes to extra time or penalties, the draw is the winning 1X2 selection, regardless of who eventually goes through.

2. Double chance. One bet covering two of the three outcomes (England win or draw, for example). Shorter odds in exchange for wider coverage.

3. Both teams to score. Both sides need to find the net at least once; the result is irrelevant.

4. Over/under goals. A bet on the total goals in the match landing above or below a line, typically 2.5. It does not matter who scores them.

5. Asian handicap. One team starts with a goal advantage or deficit (+0.5, -1.0 and so on) to level up mismatched fixtures. On whole-goal lines, if the handicap leaves the match level, stakes are returned.

6. Correct score. Predicting the precise scoreline. Big prices, big difficulty.

7. Outrights. Tournament winner, group winners, top goalscorer. You can take them before a ball is kicked or trade in and out as prices move match by match.

The Tournament: The Essentials

The 2026 World Cup is the biggest ever staged: 48 teams in 12 groups of four, 104 matches across the United States, Mexico and Canada. The top two in each group advance to the new round of 32, joined by the eight best third-placed sides - which keeps more teams alive deeper into the group stage. The opening match is Mexico against South Africa at the Estadio Azteca on 11 June; the groups conclude on 27 June, and the final is played on 19 July at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

England in Group L

England were drawn into Group L with Croatia, Ghana and Panama. The schedule, in UK time:

DateFixtureVenueKick-off (BST)
Wed 17 JuneEngland vs CroatiaAT&T Stadium (Dallas Stadium), Arlington9:00 PM
Tue 23 JuneEngland vs GhanaGillette Stadium, Foxborough9:00 PM
Sat 27 JunePanama vs EnglandMetLife Stadium, East Rutherford10:00 PM

The final round of Group L fixtures kicks off simultaneously, in line with tournament rules. Win the group and the round of 32 comes on 1 July in Atlanta; finish second and it is Toronto on 2 July. The closer against Panama is played at the same stadium that hosts the final on 19 July.

The squad. Thomas Tuchel named his 26 on 22 May in a Wembley announcement soundtracked by The Beatles, and the headlines wrote themselves. Harry Kane captains England at a third World Cup, equalling the record Billy Wright set across 1950, 1954 and 1958. Jordan Henderson makes a record-equalling fourth finals appearance, matching Sir Bobby Charlton. The spine is the one you would build in a lab - Pickford, Stones, Rice, Bellingham, Saka, Kane - while the omissions were genuinely ruthless: no Phil Foden, no Cole Palmer, with Eberechi Eze, fresh from Arsenal's first league title in 22 years, in pole position for the No. 10 role. Marcus Rashford arrives from Barcelona, Ivan Toney from Al-Ahli, and Morgan Rogers brings ten goals and six assists from Aston Villa's season. The camp opened in Palm Beach on 1 June, and the squad moves to its permanent tournament base in Kansas City on 13 June.

The numbers that frame the summer: a perfect qualifying record under Tuchel, a first World Cup title still pending since 1966 - sixty years - and a group England are expected to win. Expected, of course, is the most dangerous word in tournament football.

What the Manager Said

"It has been a tough process to decide on the nomination, but I have full belief in this group of players. They all deserve their place. The squad and everyone involved with the team will give all we can to make the country proud."
Thomas Tuchel, naming his England squad

Popular Markets for England's Matches

For every England fixture, bet365 opens dozens of markets: match result, double chance, over/under goals, Asian handicap, correct score, goalscorers and Bet Builder combinations within the same match. At tournament level, the outright markets cover the World Cup winner, each group winner, England's stage of elimination and the Golden Boot - where England fans will note the captain has previous. Prices are published and move match by match; check them directly at bet365 before staking.

Responsible Gambling

Betting on the World Cup should be entertainment, not income. Set a budget for the tournament before it starts, stake only what you can afford to lose, and never chase losses. Bet365 provides deposit limits, reality checks and self-exclusion tools in account settings, and UK customers can also register with GAMSTOP, the national self-exclusion scheme, to block access across all licensed operators at once.
