England against DR Congo is the Round of 32 tie where the Three Lions begin the knockouts as heavy favourites, but against exactly the kind of side that has given them trouble before. Thomas Tuchel's England topped their group and arrive unbeaten, with Harry Kane now their all-time leading World Cup scorer. DR Congo arrive making history, in their first knockout tie ever, with a stubborn low block and Yoane Wissa's pace on the break. It is in Atlanta, on a Wednesday teatime, with a place in the last 16 on the line. This is our plain-language guide to betting on it with Bet365: how both teams got here, what the markets are saying, the welcome offer for new UK customers, and the practical stuff worth knowing before a single pound goes down.

There is no shortage of places to bet on a World Cup, and I am not here to oversell you. The idea is to give you a clear, honest look so you can make your own call. I use Bet365 as the reference point throughout because it is one of the most widely used books in the country and its World Cup coverage is about as deep as it gets. None of that is a guarantee of anything, and the only sensible way to bet is inside a budget you set before you start.

England vs DR Congo: a Round of 32 tie in Atlanta

The basics first. England meet DR Congo in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, July 1 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta Stadium) in Atlanta, with a 5pm BST kick-off, 90 minutes plus stoppage on the line and extra time and penalties waiting if the score is level. England arrive as winners of Group L, DR Congo as the highest-ranked of the eight best third-placed teams from Group K, and the winner moves into the last 16 to meet Mexico or Ecuador. England are heavy favourites, and on paper it is a mismatch. The interesting bit is whether DR Congo can make it the kind of awkward, low-scoring afternoon that England have already had once at this tournament.

How England got here

England did the job without ever quite hitting top gear. Thomas Tuchel's side topped Group L with seven points, opening with a thrilling 4-2 win over Croatia, then grinding out a 0-0 draw with Ghana before a 2-0 win over Panama settled top spot. Harry Kane scored in that final game to become England's all-time leading World Cup scorer on 11 goals, and Jude Bellingham has chipped in alongside him. Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford give the attack its width, and Elliot Anderson was one of the standout midfielders of the group stage for his work off the ball.

The caveat is the Ghana game. England were turgid against a deep block, short of ideas and rhythm, and that is the exact template DR Congo will try to follow. Tuchel's side are unbeaten under him and clearly the better team, but they have already shown that a stubborn, well-organised opponent can drag them into a slog.

How DR Congo got here

DR Congo's story is the romantic one of the round. This is only their second World Cup and their first since they played as Zaire in 1974, and they have reached the knockout stage for the first time in their history. Sebastien Desabre's side held Portugal to a 1-1 draw, lost narrowly to Colombia 1-0, then came from behind to beat Uzbekistan 3-1, finishing third in Group K but topping the table of best third-placed teams.

The way they play is the point. Desabre sets them up in a compact, disciplined low block, they defend deep, and they spring forward on the counter through Yoane Wissa, who has scored three of their four goals at the tournament. Cedric Bakambu adds experience alongside him, and captain Chancel Mbemba marshals a back line that does not give much away. They will not see much of the ball against England, and they are not trying to. Their plan is to frustrate, stay in it, and pinch a chance on the break or from a set piece.

What the odds are telling us

England are overwhelming favourites, and the markets leave little doubt about the result. Here is how the main numbers looked at the time of writing.
Money Line 3-way (90 mins)
England1.28
Tie5.25
DR Congo13.00
To Advance (incl. extra time and pens)
England1.11
DR Congo6.50
A price of 1.28 on England means a bet of £10 returns £12.80 in total if it lands, stake included, and the To Advance line, England 1.11 and DR Congo 6.50, is about as lopsided as the last 32 gets. The market expects England to go through, and comfortably.

Where it gets a little more interesting is goals. Over/Under 2.5 came in at Over 2.00 and Under 1.80, a slight lean toward Under, and Both Teams To Score was Yes 2.62 and No 1.44, a clear lean toward No. Put those together and the book is pricing up a controlled England win, quite possibly a clean sheet, against a side that sits deep and rarely scores more than once. That is the Ghana-style script: England in charge, but goals not guaranteed.

On the player markets, England's forwards lead the score-or-assist board, with Harry Kane around 1.53, Bukayo Saka near 1.95, Marcus Rashford at 2.00 and Jude Bellingham at 2.30. For DR Congo, Yoane Wissa was the one to note at about 4.75, which tells you how much they rely on him.

One honest caveat: these prices move. They shift with team news, money and time, so the number you see now may not be the one at kick-off. Treat all of it as a snapshot, not a fixed quote.

What Bet365 offers for the World Cup

Beyond the welcome offer, the reason Bet365 is a common pick for a tournament is how much is on the board once the games kick off.

Depth of markets

For a game like England vs DR Congo you are not stuck with the result. You will usually find Asian handicaps, total goals and alternative lines, both teams to score, correct score, first and anytime scorer, first-half markets and a long list of player props. That depth lets you bet the match the way you actually see it.

Same-game parlays and Bet Boosts

Same-game parlays, shown as SGP or Bet Builder, let you tie several outcomes from one match into a single bet, for example England to win and under 2.5 goals. The payout is bigger because you are stacking conditions, and so is the risk, because every leg has to land. Bet Boosts are pre-set selections offered at an enhanced price, which can be decent value but are still bets like any other.

In-play and Cash Out

Live betting lets you play while the match unfolds, with prices moving in real time. Cash Out, where available, lets you close a bet before the final whistle to lock in a profit or cut a loss. Both are useful, but live prices move fast, so they reward a cool head over the heat of the moment.

What every bettor should know

This is the part that matters more than any market. A few basics keep betting where it belongs, as entertainment.
  • Set a budget first. Decide what you are willing to lose before the game starts, and treat it as the cost of entertainment, not an investment.
  • Understand the offer before you take it. The welcome offer comes with conditions, so read the qualifying bet, minimum odds and the Bet Credits terms so there are no surprises.
  • Prices change. Lines move with team news, money and time, so the number you see today may not be the one at kick-off.
  • Favourites are not certainties. England are overwhelming favourites and should win, but a short price still has to land, and DR Congo are built to frustrate, exactly as Ghana did in the group stage. This may be more of a grind than the odds suggest, so back the game in front of you, not the It's Coming Home noise.
  • Know when to stop. If betting stops being fun, that is your signal to step away. Help is always available, and the details are below.
Sports-King's Note. The honest answer to where to bet on England vs DR Congo is that the best book is the one that is properly licensed where you live, covers the markets you actually care about, and that you can use with discipline inside a fixed budget. Bet365 more than covers the World Cup. The discipline is on you. Pick your spots, bet what you planned, and enjoy the Three Lions' first knockout test of the tournament.
