For many tennis players, the US Open is the most important tournament of the year.

Not only do the very bright lights of playing in New York create some appetizing sponsorship opportunities, but the US Open is the last major tournament of the year. A summer filled with frustration can be wiped away with the blink of an eye after a strong performance at the US Open.

As of this moment, Novak Djokovic, fresh off of his victory at Wimbledon a few weeks ago, is the favourite to win the US Open on the men's side. Here are the odds for the top five players (in the minds of the oddsmakers):

Novak Djokovic, 13/8
Rafael Nadal, 11/4
Andy Murray, 7/2
Roger Federer, 8/1
Stanislas Wawrinka, 14/1

Djokovic, who recently regained his #1 ranking, will be looking to extend his lead at the US Open. As of you see, Djokovic has a substantial lead over Rafael Nadal, who is definitely more of a clay court player.

Roger Federer, who has enjoyed something of a career resurgence this year, may end up being Djokovic's toughest challenge in this event. Federer has done exceptionally well all year, especially on hard courts, and has a very legitimate shot of beating Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic has won a single US Open title (2011) and will be looking to add to his collection later in the year.
