Wayne Gretzky unbreakable records. Who is the best football player of all time? Who is the best baseball player of all time?

When it comes to these sports, there are a number of different names that could be considered for the title of "greatest of all time".

When it comes to hockey, there is only one answer to this question:

Wayne Gretzky.

Wayne Gretzky is the greatest hockey player of all time, and it's not even close.

Wayne Gretzky holds a staggering number of NHL records.

Here are the top 10 Wayne Gretzky records that will likely never be broken:

1. 2,857 points.

Wayne Gretzky is #1 on the all-time points list with a total of 2,857 points.

The next closest player on the list, Jaromir Jagr, is over 900 points behind Gretzky.

The active player with the most points is Joe Thornton, and he would need another 1,300+ points to catch Gretzky.

Gretzky averaged nearly 2 points per game over the course of his illustrious career.

There is no way that this record is ever getting broken.

2. 1,963 assists.

There is a good chance that Alexander Ovechkin eventually takes Wayne Gretzky's career goal-scoring record.

The assist record? That's a different story.

Wayne Gretzky finished his career with a total of 1,963 assists - the closest active player, Joe Thornton, is more than 800 assists behind "The Great One".

There are only 13 players that have more than 1,000 assists over the course of their careers - Gretzky had nearly 2,000.

3. 92 Goals in One Season.

In the 1981-82 season, Wayne Gretzky scored 92 goals in 80 games.

It's a big deal, in this day and age, when a player scores 60 goals in a single season.

Beating Gretzky's 92 goals in a single season now? There is just no way.

4. 163 Assists in One Season.

In the 1985-86 season, Wayne Gretzky notched a total of 163 assists.

The next closest player on the list not named Wayne Gretzky?

Mario Lemieux, who had 114 assists in the 1988-89 season.

Another unbreakable record.

5. 3,238 Points (Including Playoffs).

See #1.

Gretzky is so far ahead of the competition here that it's almost laughable.

6. 255 Points in One Season, Including Playoffs.

In the 1984-85 season, Wayne Gretzky had a total of 255 points in his regular season and playoff games.

The next closest player on the list? Mario Lemieux, with a total of 218 points.

Averaging roughly 2 1/2 points per game over the course of an entire season, including a deep playoff run, especially in this age of parity and great goaltending? Not a chance.

7. 4 Consecutive 60+ Goal Seasons.

As mentioned - it's a big deal when somebody scores 60 goals in a season in this day and age.

Scoring 60 goals 4 seasons in a row requires a tremendous amount to go right, including playing for four straight seasons without any time missed.

This record is very safe.

8. 15 100+ Point Seasons.

It's hard enough to score 100 points or more in a single season in this day and age.

To do it 15 times would require essentially never scoring less than 100 points in a single season in your 20s, and continuing this torrid scoring well into your 30s.

9. 50 Three-or-more Goal Games.

Over the course of his career, Wayne Gretzky had a hattrick (or more) 50 times.

The next closest player on the list? Mike Bossy, with a total of 39.

10. 10 3+ Goal Games in a Single Season.

It's a big deal when a player scores a hattrick in the modern era.

To do it 10 times in a single season? Nearly impossible.
