Spain Is 2.25 To Win

The United States, which has a team that includes the likes of Anthony Davis, James Harden and Kyrie Irving, are currently the favourites to win the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.

Speaking of Spain, this is the only team that is seen by bookmakers as having even a remote chance of dethroning the United States in the finals. After all, Spain has an impressive collection of NBA talent that includes the likes of Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka and Ricky Rubio. A truly impressive roster that can (and probably will) give the United States fits in the finals, provided that neither team stumbles on the way to the finals.

Another factor - Spain is hosting the event and will be playing in front of their home fans, which will certainly give them a boost heading into any final game.

There are currently 16 teams left in the tournament - here are their odds of winning:

USA, 1.61
Spain, 2.25
Greece, 41.00
Brazil, 51.00
Lithuania, 67.00
France, 81.00
Argentina, 101.00
Croatia, 101.00
Serbia, 101.00
Australia, 151.00
Slovenia, 151.00
Turkey, 201.00
Dominican Republic, 1001.00
New Zealand, 1001.00
Mexico, 2001.00
Senegal, 2001.00

As you can see, it is truly the United States, Spain and then everybody else. It would be a miracle if Spain didn't square off against the United States in the finals.

What do you think - do the likes of Harden and Irving have what it takes to get by the hometown Spanish team?
