There have been some long winning streaks by one team over another in the history of college football.
Nebraska beat Kansas 36 times in a row.
Princeton beat Rutgers 33 times in a row.
Oklahoma beat Kansas State 32 times in a row.
The longest winning streak by one team over another belongs to Notre Dame, who beat Navy 43 times in a row between 1964 and 2006.
Notre Dame and Navy have a "rivalry" that stretches back over a century, though Navy probably didn't think much of the rivalry while they were losing 43 games in a row.
For much of the streak, Notre Dame had a very good football team while Navy largely struggled.
Navy finally ended the streak on November 3rd, 2007, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
Notre Dame was terrible that season, as they had a record of just 1-7 entering the game.
Navy entered the game with a 4-4 record.
Despite Notre Dame having one of their worst teams of the past 50 years, they still gave Navy everything that they could handle.
The game was tied at the end of regulation and it would take three overtime periods to finally decide the outcome.
In the end, Notre Dame couldn't capitalize on a two-point conversion at the end of the third overtime period and Navy was able to walk away with a 46-44 victory, thereby snapping the streak.
The last time that Navy had been able to beat Notre Dame prior to 2007 was when Roger Staubach and Navy led their team to a 35-14 victory on November 2nd, 1963. Navy had one of the best teams in the nation that year, led by eventual Heisman Trophy winner Roger Staubach, and they easily handled Notre Dame on that chilly November day.
Little did Navy know that it would be over four decades before they would beat Notre Dame again.
