The American football season must and will go on. Earlier this week, the NFL announced that the planned game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans has been pushed later into the season due to a Coronavirus outbreak on the Titans.

A few days later, New England Patriots QB Cam Newton tested positive for the Coronavirus, which resulted in the game between the Patriots and Chiefs being pushed back to Monday.

On top of that, there was an initial positive Coronavirus test on the New Orleans Saints, though that turned out to be a false positive.

This has raised the question - could the NFL season actually be cancelled as a result of the Coronavirus?

While certainly anything could happen, there is virtually NO chance that the NFL will cancel their season.

In fact, a cancellation is considered so much of a long shot that there are no odds available to bet on a cancellation at any of the major sportsbooks.

NFL football is just too big of a business for the league to consider a cancellation. There are tens of billions of dollars on the line, and the US government would likely do whatever they could to assist in the NFL keeping their doors open, just as they helped with college football.

NFL football is beloved by practically the entire country, and cancelling the season would damage the collective psyche of the nation even more.

Through all of the turmoil of the last year, many people have found solace in sports, and there is virtually no chance of the NFL axing its season, even if there is a widespread outbreak of the virus.

If there was a big outbreak that forced the cancellation of numerous games, I think that the NFL would quickly move to some sort of a bubble in order to save their season. They have the money and the resources to quickly make this happen, and I'm sure that the executives at the NFL have some sort of a contingency plan already in place.

Also, remember that Major League Baseball had all sorts of issues at the start of their season, and they eventually figured things out and have enjoyed relatively smooth sailing ever since.

If you are looking to bet that the NFL season is going to be cancelled, you might want to think twice, as it is almost surely a sucker's bet.
