Over the course of his illustrious career in the NFL, wide receiver Julio Jones earned a tad under $150,000,000.

For a time, Julio Jones was arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL - an unstoppable force that topped out at 1,871 receiving yards in the 2015 regular season.

Jones, like many other NFL players, liked to wear jewellry.

Jones had a $150,000 earring that he constantly wore in his right ear. During the offseason one year, Jones was out at Lake Lanier, riding his jetski.

At some point on his ride, Jones' $150,000 earring fell out of his ear and dropped into the lake. Jones only realized it after his ride, so he had no idea where it had fallen.

Jones wasn't about to just let his insurance company pay him out for the earring - he wanted it back.

Jones hired a dive team to scour the lake to try to retrieve the valuable earring.

The dive team tried their best, but they would later say that the task was "impossible", as the bottom of Lake Lanier was "pitch dark" and filled with crevasses and "nooks and crannies".

In short, the earring likely settled into a crevasse at the bottom of the lake, making it nearly impossible to find.

People have tried to find the earring in the years following, but it is dangerous and ill-advised.

If divers with proper equipment couldn't find the earring after days of trying, the average person will have no chance.

One day, many moons from now, the water in Lake Lenier will evaporate, and Julio Jones' long-lost earring will be located.

For his part, Jones moved on, confident that he had done everything within his power to locate the valuable earring.
