An obscure piece of baseball history. Five batters struck in one inning. Malcolm Van Buren has done something that NOBODY else has done in the history of both Major League Baseball and the minor league system.

Malcolm Van Buren has struck out five batters - in a SINGLE inning.

A number of Major League pitchers have struck out four batters in a single inning, but nobody has ever struck out five.

This extends to the minor league baseball system as well - with the seemingly infinite number of games that take place every year, only one player - Malcolm Van Buren - has struck out five in a single inning.

-

It was August of 2019, and Van Buren was taking the mound in the 7th inning for the Burlington Royals, the rookie league affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.

Van Buren was definitely feeling it that day, though he still managed to find himself in a jam.

Van Buren struck out the first batter of the inning.

Van Buren struck out the second batter of the inning, though the third strike got away from the catcher and the batter reached first base.

Van Buren struck out the third batter of the inning.

Three strikeouts, but only two outs.

Van Buren struck out the fourth batter of the inning, though the batter reached first after the catcher couldn't corral the last strike.

Van Buren walked the next batter.

Four strikeouts in the inning, though there were only two outs, and the bases were loaded.

Unbelievable!

Van Buren would get himself out of his "jam" by striking out the last batter of the inning.

One inning. Five strikeouts.

Malcolm Van Buren never came close to playing in the Major Leagues, though he does own an obscure piece of baseball history.
