Alexander Gustafsson Favourite To Defeat Werdum in Heavyweight Debut

On Saturday evening, Fabricio Werdum will be squaring off against Alexander Gustafsson in a Heavyweight tilt.

That's right - Alexander Gustafsson, who was never able to get over the hump and win the Light Heavyweight title, has decided to make the move to Heavyweight.

This follows Gustafsson's "retirement" last year.

Gustafsson has rediscovered his passion for mixed martial arts, though he has decided that he no longer wants to cut to make Light Heavyweight. Instead, he has added some weight and will now be competing at Heavyweight.

If Gustafsson wants to make another run at a title shot, the Heavyweight division is likely the place to do it, as he would likely be hard-pressed to convince UFC brass that he deserves another shot at Jon Jones and the Light Heavyweight title.

Fabricio Werdum, on the other hand, is a former UFC Heavyweight champion who will be looking for his first win since 2017.

Werdum is one of the most well-rounded Heavyweights, as he possesses a greatly improved striking game, plus elite level grappling. The worry with Werdum? He is 42 years of age and is roughly three years removed from his last win.
