Do Lebron James and the Cavaliers Have Any Chance Against the Warriors?

It has been a very dysfunctional offseason for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and that spells bad news when it comes to their chances of winning the NBA title in 2017/18.

It was always going to be a very steep hill to climb to beat the Golden State Warriors, though a very bad offseason for the Cavs has resulted in their odds of winning the NBA title this year getting even worse.

Let's recap Cleveland's terrible offseason:

- they missed out on Paul George, Jimmy Butler and Chris Paul
- their GM was fired
- Kyrie Irving asked for a trade

Now, with Lebron James and Kyrie Irving seemingly at war, the Cleveland Cavaliers need to start planning for how they are going to compete with the Golden State Warriors in the finals. After all, the Cavaliers are the clear favourites to win in the East and will likely return to the finals, as long as Lebron James is on the team anyways.

As of this moment, the Cavaliers are 5/1 to win the NBA title in 2017/18, while the Warriors are 10/17. The Warriors, come off of their second title in the past three years, will be returning just as strong as ever, while the Cavaliers will have many question marks. Is Irving going to be traded? Will James stay past next year? Will the Cavs rebuild or try to win another title this year?

In my opinion, the only way that the Cavaliers have a chance of beating the Warriors is if they pull off some sort of a miracle deal involving Kyrie. Kyrie is one of the top young players in the league, and the Cavaliers should be able to pull off a nice haul for Irving.

Given the way that the Warriors played last season, it seems almost unfathomable to believe that the Cavaliers will be able to compete in the finals.

Having said that, perhaps this situation with Irving fires up James, and if the Cavaliers can add a few solid pieces, maybe they could give Durant, Curry and the rest a run for their money.

Seems unlikely though.
