The semi-finals of the College Football Championship are set to take place later this week on January 1st.

The college football playoff format is a new beast that is currently in its infancy. The first year of the playoff format has been quite controversial but also quite exciting.

The four teams that are in contention for the national championship title are:

Oregon
Alabama
Florida State
Ohio State

Alabama and Oregon are the clear favorites to win the title, while both Florida State and Ohio State are considered long shots to win. This is despite the fact that Florida State are the defending national champions and haven't lost a game in a very long time.

On January 1st, Florida State will play against Oregon while Ohio State will do battle with Alabama. The winners of these two games will then face off later in the month for the national title.

Coincidentally, both Oregon and Alabama are 9 1/2 point favorites to win. Here are the current betting odds for both games as of this moment:

Oregon, -9.5, 1.91
Florida State, +9.5, 1.91

Ohio State, +9.5, 1.91
Alabama, -9.5, 1.91

The over/under total for the Oregon/Florida State is set at a staggeringly high 71.5 points, while the over/under for the Ohio State/Alabama game is set at 58.5 points.

Here are the money lines for both contests:

Florida State, 3.75
Oregon Ducks, 1.28

Ohio State, 3.75
Alabama, 1.28

Can Florida State slow down the dynamic offensive attack of the Ducks? Will Alabama be able to hold off Ohio State, arguably the best team in the country when the season concluded? What about Ohio State's injury woes?

Will we see Alabama and Oregon in the college football title game or will there be an upset or two?
