Definition of Buy/Sell Points
What does the term "buy/sell points" mean in the world of sports betting? What is meant by the term "buy/sell points"?
Buying and selling points in the world of sports betting essentially means that you are creating your own "alternate spread" line.
For instance - let's say that the Detroit Lions are playing the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football, and the Chiefs are -6.5 favorites, while the Lions are +6.5 underdogs. If you buy or sell points, you can create alternate spreads for yourself.
For instance - let's say that you believe that the Chiefs are going to win in a romp.
You think that they are going to win by at least two touchdowns.
You decide that you are going to "sell points" and bet on a -13.5 Chiefs line that will look like this:
Kansas City Chiefs, -13.5, +190
In exchange for your confidence, you are giving yourself a chance of taking down $190 in profit for every $100 that you wager.
-
On the other hand, let's say that you like the Lions but want some extra room.
You decide that you are going to bet them at +7.5 instead of +6.5, which would look like this:
Detroit Lions, +7.5, -136
So, in this case, you would be buying a point, and for every $136 that you wagered, you would have a chance of winning $100 in profit back.
