Las Vegas Still Slightly Optimistic About Season Being Saved

Did you know that you can bet money on whether or not the NHL season will be saved?

That's right - Bodog.ca is currently offering up two betting lines that they call their "NHL Lockout Specials". Bodog.ca lets you bet on two different things - whether or not the 2012-13 NHL season will be cancelled, and whether or not the NHLPA (the player's union) will decertify.

As of this moment, Bodog.ca is still (slightly) optimistic that the season will be saved. Here are their current betting odds as of this moment:

Will the entire 2012-2013 NHL season be cancelled because of a lockout?

Yes, +110
No, -150

The "yes" is a slight underdog - a $100 bet on a "Yes" vote would return you a profit of $110 if the season is, in fact, cancelled.

The "no" is a small favorite - $150 bet on a "No" vote would produce a profit of $100.

Given the fact that it is almost December and the two sides currently aren't negotiating, the "No" side is looking better by the day. The NHL and NHLPA likely have until the end of December to make a major breakthrough - the latest that a season could start would probably be January 15th, and even then this would allow for a 48 game season or so.

According to Bodog, the odds are good that the players union will vote to decertify before the end of the year.

Here are the current odds for decertification:

Will the NHL Players Union decertify before January 1, 2013?

Yes, -140
No, EVEN

As you can see, the "Yes" side is a slight favorite. At this point, a vote to decertify would almost certainly result in the cancellation of the season.
