The trade deadline is rapidly approaching for the NHL, which means that the league is about to enter its final stretch of the regular season.

There have been some surprises this season, both to the upside and to the downside. The Washington Capitals are probably the biggest story of the NHL so far this season, as the team has managed to pull it all together and is currently looking like the team to beat. The Capitals seemingly have everything - scoring, defence and great goaltending. It should be no surprise, for that reason, that the Capitals are currently the favourites to win the Stanley Cup at 4.33.

The Chicago Blackhawks, however, are lurking at 8.50 to win the Cup. The Blackhawks have plenty of experience and two of the most dynamic players in the league in Toews and Kane. Patrick Kane has been going wild so far this season, as he is practically lapping the field in the scoring race. The Blackhawks are always a tough out in the playoffs and this year will likely be no different.

The Dallas Stars, led by a dynamic offensive attack, are also 8.50 to win the Stanley Cup. The Stars have looked incredibly impressive this season but it will be interesting to see how their young offensive talents hold up in the playoffs when the checking is tighter and the stakes are higher.

The Los Angeles Kings are currently listed at 12.00 to win the Cup, while the Blues and Ducks are 13.00 and 17.00 to win respectively. All three teams will be extremely hard to beat in the playoffs, though the strength of the Western Conference means that these teams will have to club each other to death to make it to the Finals.

After that, a number of Eastern Conference teams have roughly the same odds to win, including:

Florida Panthers, 17.00
San Jose Sharks, 17.00
Tampa Bay Lightning, 17.00
New York Rangers, 19.00
Boston Bruins, 21.00
Detroit Red Wings, 21.00

The Capitals have had promising teams in the past but have never been able to take the final step to the promised land.

The Blackhawks, on the other hand, always do well in the playoffs and have all of the ingredients to make another deep run this year.

Who do you think represents the best value going forward?
