Sports Nicknames - King James

LeBron James is one of those names that everybody knows. Frequently his name is thrown in with Michael Jordan as the best to ever play the game of basketball. That's why he's picked up names like "King James", "The King", "The Chosen One" among others. You don't get those by simply being good.

James was drafted to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, having been drafted straight out of high school and was immediately named Rookie of the Season. Despite his individual successes at Cleveland (being named to multiple Team of the Years and winning Defensive Player of the Year), he never managed to win the playoffs.

In 2010, James left for the Miami Heat, winning back-to-back championships in the 2011 and 2012 seasons. However, after the 2013-14 season, James left the Heat to become a free agent once again. This led him back to Cleveland.

This time, he did manage to win a championship with Cleveland, in the 2015-16 season. However, despite reaching the playoffs multiple times, he was unable to win any other titles with the team. Once again, his contract reached its end in Cleveland and he became a free agent once more. This time, he headed to the L.A. Lakers.

After an injury-riddled first season, James helped the team to a championship title in the COVID stricken 2019-20 season. He won his fourth Finals MVP award alongside this title, becoming the only player to do so for 3 different teams.

The lists of statistics and awards the King James has won could go on forever. However, one thing is clear: LeBron James deserves to be in the conversation for best of all time. His stats show it, as does his trophy case.
