Illustration of hockey player Mario Memieux. One of the greats. In his third and final season with the Laval Voisins in 1983-84, Mario Lemieux put up the most ridiculous season ever in junior hockey.

A season that was never topped by anybody else, whether we are talking about the WHL, OHL and QMJHL.

A season that wasn't even topped by Wayne Gretzky.

Mario Lemieux's first two seasons with Laval were unbelievable on their own, as he notched 96 points and 184 points.

As a 17 year-old, Lemieux's 184 point season had the hockey world buzzing, but his next season would be even better.

In 1983-84, Lemieux put up these stats:

70 games played
133 goals
149 assists
282 points

Lemieux's massive haul of goals included 15 power-play goals, 9 short-handed goals and 12 game-winning goals.

Forget about points - Lemieux averaged almost 2 goals per game in his last season with Laval.

Lemieux averaged more than 4 points per game over his entire last season with Laval. This wasn't some season that was shortened by injury - Lemieux posted this total over 70 games, meaning that he maintained his production through the long bus rides and grinding junior schedule.

Now, a few things likely stand out to you:

1) The ridiculous amount of goals that Laval scored as a team in 1983-84. Laval scored 527 goals over the course of the 70 game season, meaning that they averaged over 7.5 goals PER GAME.

2) Verdun actually held Lemieux off the score sheet on February 26th, 1984.

3) Lemieux finished with 18 points in his last two games with Laval.

4) The Laval team was really, really good (they were).
