Instead, the sites will use geo-targeting technology to ensure that you are located within the province's borders. If you are, you will be able to open up an account and bet.

The province of Ontario has granted licenses to a number of different operators ahead of their April 4th launch date. Some of the operators that will be live in Ontario on the first day of betting include:

Unibet
Fanduel

Other operators, including DraftKings, are expected to launch this year as well.

Prior to the legalization of single-game betting in Canada, the sports betting industry in the country was considered a "grey market", where it was not legal though there was no enforcement.

Now, with the launch of betting in Ontario, the industry has been fully legalized, and more provinces are expected to follow suit.

Canada is a tremendous market for sports betting companies, as the country loves betting on sports and has a high per-capita income.
