What is the definition of the term "Asian Spread"? What is meant by the term "Asian Spread"?

The term "Asian Spread" refers to a handicap betting market that eliminates the possibility of a draw by splitting stakes across two close handicap lines. It's used to create a more balanced wager between two unevenly matched teams, offering more nuanced risk and return options than a traditional point spread.

For example, if you back Celtic -2.0, -2.5 at odds of 2.050, your stake is split: half on Celtic -2.0 and half on Celtic -2.5. If Celtic wins by 3 or more, both parts of the bet win. If they win by exactly 2, you lose half the bet (the -2.5 side) and push the other half (-2.0). A win by 1 or a draw results in a full loss.

On the other side, backing St Mirren +2.0, +2.5 at odds of 1.800 splits the bet across two lines in their favor. If St Mirren loses by 2 exactly, half the bet wins (+2.5) and the other half is refunded (+2.0). If they lose by 1, draw, or win outright, both parts of the bet are successful.

Asian Spread markets offer more refined outcomes and are popular for reducing variance, especially in lopsided matchups.
