There is a blockbuster MMA fight in the making, featuring the sports biggest star. Done deal?

Earlier today, Conor McGregor Tweeted that he had "accepted" the offer to fight Dustin Poirier, provided that the fight took place sometime in 2020, with November 21st being his preferred date.

McGregor had previously indicated his desire to fight for the Lightweight title, though Khabib is defending against Justin Gaethje later in the month.

With a McGregor/Poirier fight happening relatively soon (by the sounds of it), the UFC might be planning to give the winner of Conor/Poirier to the winner of Khabib/Gaethje.

The UFC 178 fight between Poirier and McGregor helped cement McGregor's status as a superstar, as he knocked out Poirier in the first round after calling his shot.

McGregor's star power has gone on to reach stratospheric levels after that fight, as he had held multiple titles and even fought Floyd Mayweather.

Dustin Poirier, on the other hand, has won an interim title before eventually getting "smeshed" by Khabib.

While Poirier's fight against Khabib was likely the biggest of his life, a rematch against Conor McGregor would be an easy second.

Conor McGregor has opened as the clear favourite to win the rematch. Here are the betting odds courtesy of a major offshore book:

Conor McGregor, -210
Dustin Poirier, +180

While Poirier has undoubtedly improved leaps and bounds since their first fight, so has Conor McGregor.

-

Poirier does not want to get into a standing war with McGregor, as McGregor remains one of the hardest hitting in the division.

If this fight does come together, look for Poirier to utilize more of his wrestling, as else he may suffer a similar fate as he did at UFC 178.
