Alabama Opens as Six Point Favorites Over Clemson
Published on December 31st, 2016 11:39 pm ESTFor the second straight year in a room, the Alabama Crimson Tide will squaring off against the Clemson Tigers in the college football National Championship game.
In 2016's title game, Alabama managed to eke out a 45-40 victory. The game was particularly wild, as a total of 40 points were squared in the first quarter alone.
In 2016, the Clemson Tigers were college football's top team, as they entered the title game with the #1 ranking and a perfect 14-0 record. Alabama, on the other hand, was the #2 ranked team in the nation after finishing their season with a record of 13-1.
Things are different this year, as Alabama enters the game as the consensus #1 team in the nation, while the Clemson Tigers have the #3 ranking.
Both teams had a relatively easy time of things in the semi-finals, as Alabama defeated Washington while Clemson breezed by Ohio State.

Alabama coach Nick Saban has already cemented his standing as one of the greatest college football coaches in the history of the game, but a second straight national title could put him in the running for the title of the all-time greatest.
Debo Swinney, on the other hand, is looking to carve out his place in history as well, and there would be no better way to do that than to defeat Nick Saban in the national title game.

My gut feeling is that the spread will tighten up to 3 or 3 1/2 points by the time that this game kicks off on January 9th, 2017.
