There are three candidates that should likely jump out at you:
Wayne Gretzky, who holds nearly every offensive NHL record
Darryl Sittler, who holds the record for most points in a single NHL game (10)
Mario Lemieux, who scored at a prolific rate that almost matched "The Great One"
In this case, the record belongs to Wayne Gretzky, who notched 13 points over a two-game stretch in late 1983, while playing for the Edmonton Oilers.
During the 1983-84 season, Gretzky, despite playing in only 74 games, managed to finish with 205 points.
This included a stretch in November of 1983 when "The Great One" put up 13 points in just two games.
On November 19th, 1983, Gretzky notched 3 goals and 5 assists in a 13-4 romp against the New Jersey Devils.
After a couple of days of rest, Gretzky was at it again, putting up 2 goals and 3 assists in a 7-2 win against the St. Louis Blues on November 23rd, 1983.
13 points. 2 games.
-
Darryl Sittler put up 12 points in a two-game stretch in 1976.
This included Sittler's famous 10 point game against the Boston Bruins on February 7th, 1976. This is a record that still stands to this day.
Three days prior to that record-breaking performance, Sittler put up 2 points against the Washington Capitals in a 4-4 tie.
-
Mario Lemieux? He stands at third on this list, as he put up 11 points in early March of 1989.
Lemieux's performance is made even more impressive by the fact that he put up 11 points in back-to-back games - 3 points in a 4-3 win against the New York Islanders, and 8 points in a game the very next night.
