Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy Current Favorites to Win

The 2016 PGA Championship will be taking place this week at the Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield Township, New Jersey.

The tournament is being moved forward by two weeks in order to make way for the approaching Summer Olympics in Brazil.

A total field of 156 players will be competing for their share of the $10,500,000 in total prize money, with the eventual winner getting a payday of nearly $1.9 million. Perhaps even more importantly, the winner will likely cash in afterwards in the form of increased sponsorship interest.

Sure, the golfing world doesn't have Tiger Woods right now, but they do have an array of sparkling young talent, including the likes of Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth. With these three players participating in the event, anything could happen.

Jason Day will be looking to retain his title, as he broke through and won the PGA Championship last year. According to the bookmakers, Day currently has the third best odds of winning the tournament.

Phil Mickelson, fresh off of some stunning golf a few weeks ago, is also going to be in the hunt. Mickelson, as mentioned, has been playing extremely well as of late and certainly can't be discounted in this event.

Will one of golf's brightest stars take down this event, or will somebody relatively unheralded surprise everyone?
