The ATP Estoril event, aka the Millennium Estoril Open, was conceived back in 2015. The event took the place of the Portugal Open, which had to be canceled due to lack of sponsorships.

The ATP 250 event, which is played on the clay courts at the Clube de Tenis do Estoril, features a total prize pool of roughly €534,000.

The tournament is used as a warm-up for the French Open, which takes place later in the year.
