Sports Nicknames - Vini

Vinicius Junior might only have just entered his 20s, but he is making a name for himself with Spanish giants Real Madrid. A Brazilian attacker who played for barely a year in the Flamengo first team before getting scooped up by Real, it seems that many eyes are now looking to him for future success.

Vinicius Junior signed with Flamengo when he was 17 after initially deciding that he didn't want to play futsal. He played for their youth team from when he was 6 to 17 years old. At 17, he made his first team debut for the club.

It was in 2018 that Vinicius Junior made his move to Madrid, initially playing for their youth team Castilla. Initially it seemed that he would be loaned back to Brazil, but 3 managers in 1 summer for Madrid changed that plan. However, his first season was ended abruptly by a ruptured knee ligament. In the 2019-20 season, he had much more of an impact, scoring a goal against Barcelona as Real won La Liga that year.

Vinicius Junior's Brazil career started when he was 15, playing for the youth teams at the international level. He worked his way up through the U-15s, U-17s, and U-20s, until finally making his appearance against Peru in 2019 with a 1-0 defeat.

Praised as a dynamic, hard-working and intelligent winger who can also play striker, it will be interesting to see how much impact Vinicius "Vini" Junior can have on Real Madrid's future. His time in Spain has been disrupted by injuries so far, so we can only hope this does not continue.
