Sports Nicknames - Little Milla



Samuel Eto'o is typically regarded as one of the best Afrrican players of all time. The Cameroonian striker played an integral part in the successes of both Barcelona and Inter Milan in the late 2000s, performing spectacularly on both an individual and team level.

Samuel Eto'o actually started his footballing career in the youth academy of Real Madrid. However, he was loaned out for 3 years before finally making a permanent move to Mallorca. He would stay with the club for 4 years, scoring 2 goals in the 2003 Copa del Rey final, which Mallorca won.

It was from 2004 onwards that Samuel Eto'o rose to true stardom. Departing as Mallorca's all time domestic goal-scorer, he was signed by FC Barcelona. He would spend a spectacular 5 seasons with the Catalan club, scoring 130 goals in 199 appearances. After winning a combined 8 trophies with the club, Eto'o would next bring his success to Italy with Inter Milan.

In Eto'o's 2 years at Inter, helped the club win its famous treble of Serie A, the Champions League and Coppa Italia in 2009. However, these years would prove to be the last of his peak. He played for 7 clubs over the next 8 years, not winning anything else. However, he continued to make appearances for the Cameroonian national team, having helped the country with the 2000 and 2002 African Cup of Nations.

Samuel Eto'o finished his career in 2019, having firmly cemented his place alongside George Weah and Didier Drogba as one of the greatest African strikers of all time. All of this from a man who was nicknamed "little Milla" in his childhood.
