Sports Nicknames - El Matador

Edinson Cavani might have made his name in Italy as El Matador (The Bullfighter) thanks to his composure in front of goal, but his career spans so much more than that.

Cavani began his professional career at Palermo back in 2007, helping them to European qualification in his 3 years there. However, in 2010, he made the transfer to Societa Sportiva Calcio Napoli (or just Napoli). He spent the next three years at the Neapolitan club, scoring an absurd amount of goals - finishing with 104 goals in 138 appearances and helping the club to a Coppa Italia.

It was here where Cavani's Italian adventure would come to an end. He joined Paris Saint-Germain in France, where he would win the majority of his trophies in his career. He has helped the French club to the league title every year he was there except for 1, finishing with 7 victories. The Uruguayan also helped win 9 domestic cup competitions while scoring goal after goal. However, European success would continue to evade him here.

In terms of Cavani's international career, he has not lacked success. He's made over 100 appearances for the senior Uruguay side, scoring 51 goals and winning the 2011 Copa America.

Cavani now plays at Manchester United in England, trying to help the team get back to their glory days. Whether or not he can do that is yet to be seen. What is certain is that El Matador has been one of the most prolific strikers of the last decade and should be praised for his goalscoring.
