"Sid the Kid" wasn't the first member of the Crosby family to know the thrill of being drafted by a NHL team.

In fact, Sidney Crosby's father, Troy Crosby, was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1984 NHL Draft.

Troy Crosby, who was a goaltender, was drafted in the 12th round by the Montreal Canadiens at the 1984 NHL Draft.

Troy Crosby played in the QMJHL for two seasons for Verdun.

In his final season with the team, Crosby posted a record of 21-15-2, with a GAA of 4.53.

The QMJHL was known for its offense, so these were actually quite respectable numbers.

The Verdun Junior Canadiens had a tumultuous season in 1984-85. Verdun hired a new head coach with just five games left in the season, and ultimately went on to win the President's Cup.

Verdun was virtually unstoppable in the QMJHL playoffs, losing only two games over the course of three series.

Verdun, led by future NHLer Claude Lemieux, made the Memorial Cup, where they finished in last place.

Troy Crosby, however, did enough to earn himself the attention of multiple NHL teams, including the Montreal Canadiens.

Troy Crosby didn't make the NHL - in fact, he didn't play a single game in the league.

After realizing that the NHL wasn't in the cards, Crosby earned bachelor's and master's degrees in science. After leaving the military, Troy Crosby took multiple roles working for the Canadian government.

In 2005, Troy Crosby finally realized his dream of having a Crosby play in the NHL.

Troy's son, Sidney, was a bonafide superstar and immediately saw action in the NHL.
