Messi Extends Barcelona Contract Until 2021

The buy-out clause is set at €700m and his reported weekly salary, starting next season, will be €558,000. Messi also receives a €50m signing bonus.

Lionel Messi arrived to Barcelona as a teenager and played his first competitive match when he was 17. He is 30 years old now and will be 34 when his contract expires. People were always wondering if Messi would end up being a one-club man and this new contract potentially answers that question.

Over the course of his career Messi has played 603 matches for Barcelona, scored 523 goals, won 4 Champions Leagues, 8 La Liga titles and 5 Copa del Reys. Personally, Messi won 5 Ballon d'Ors, more than any other player in history, as well as 4 Golden Shoes.

The financial magazine Forbes estimates that by the time Messi's career is over, he will have earned a total in the area of €735m. This includes his salary, bonuses and endorsement income. Speaking of endorsements, Messi earns around €25m/year, a bulk of which is from his lifetime deal with Adidas.
