Football Matchups Across Europe - August 22nd - Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur etc.
Published on August 22nd, 2011Tonight is the big derby of the Premier league second round between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The game is that much more attractive because these two teams are currently on a roll. Manchester has won their last five and have opened the English season with a Community shield win over Manchester City and a hard fought win over West Brom on last Sunday. Tottenham on the other side has yet to play an official game in the English season since their last one against Everton was postponed.
Both teams are playing offensive football so the best bet for tonight's game is that both teams will score. Bookies are giving you a 1,7 to a dollar and that seems to be a safe bet for this game although the last game between these two was a goalless draw, which happens only so rarely between these two side that one should not expect it to happen again. Of notable injuries to the teams tonight, there will most definitely be the absence of the all important Pienaar for Tottenham, while Manchester United are in a bit of a problem with number of notable injuries, namely defender Vidic, midfielder Valencia being doubtful for the match while the attacker Hernandez is out until the end of the month with concussion related problems. Rio Ferdinand is also out for tonight’s tie.
United is a better team currently and should be poised for a win in this one. Still the safe bet is to go for both teams scoring and to sit back and enjoy this classic ahead of us tonight.
Some other notable matches for tonight include the fight for a first place in the Austrian 1. Liga table where a second place LASK Linz is meeting a first place WAC / St. Andra.
Linz is in good form having won four of their last five while remaining undefeated in the stretch. St. Andra on the other hand has recorded a tie and a loss in their last two matches and have only won two of their last five played. Bookies are giving 2,0 to a dollar for a Linz win and that seems to be the most realistic bet for tonight for this the only tie in the Austrian second strongest flight.
Another game worth looking at tonight is a Germany's second league match between St. Pauli and Duisburg. The bookies are favoring St. Pauli in this one and for a reason, since St. Pauli is still undefeated in the first four games played in the league, while Duisburg are only 16th and have yet to win a game this year. Tonight will probably not be their night as St. Pauli is traditionally not an easy opponent for Duisburg having one only one time in the last six times these two sides met. The spread on St. Pauli is 1,85 to a dollar and should be a solid bet for tonight’s players.
One more to add to your betting slip, courtesy of the King himself is the ever unpredictable Irish league match between the St. Patricks and Bohemians. Both teams are struggling having won only one of their last five but St. Patricks is in a slightly better form having dumped Drogheda United in the last round with a convincing 4:0 showing, while Bohemians, although playing well against the lower ranked teams, have found it rather difficult to beat the teams ahead of them in the Irish premier league table. Tonight is one of those games where they are playing against the better ranked St. Patricks and look for St. Patricks to keep the three points at their Dublin Richmond park Stadium. The bookies are giving a generous 2,45 spread on the home side which should prevail in the tonight’s lone fixture in the Irish premier league.
