Copa Sudamericana Betting - A Guide to the Final, Whoever Plays

The Copa Sudamericana is CONMEBOL's second club competition - the continent's answer to the Europa League - and its final is worth more than a trophy: the winner earns a place in the next Copa Libertadores. This guide works for any final, whoever reaches it. It explains how a one-match final works, what changes for your bets when a draw is not the end of the story, and which markets are worth understanding before kick-off. The 2026 final is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla, Colombia.

The rule on this page: no predictions and honest maths. The odds in the tables are illustrative examples to show how the markets work, not the real Bet365 board. Real prices move with every piece of news.

A Cup Nobody Owns

The Sudamericana has been played since 2002, and nobody owns it: through the 2025 edition, no club had won it more than twice. Six clubs share that record of two titles:

CLUBTITLESYEARS
Boca Juniors22004, 2005
LDU Quito22009, 2023
Independiente22010, 2017
Lanús22013, 2025
Athletico Paranaense22018, 2021
Independiente del Valle22019, 2022

Since the final became a single match in 2019, these have been the results. Two of the seven went to penalties and another finished 1-0, so nearly half were settled by one goal or less:

The 2026 Final

The 2026 final is Boca Juniors against Atlético Mineiro. Boca won the Sudamericana in 2004 and 2005 and are trying to become the first club to win it three times. Atlético Mineiro are in their second straight final, after losing the 2025 final on penalties to Lanús. Whichever side is listed as the "home" team, the ground in Barranquilla is neutral, and the weight of each crowd depends on how many fans make the trip.

What the Winner Gets

The champion earns a direct place in the group stage of the next Copa Libertadores, plays the Recopa Sudamericana against the Libertadores winner, and takes prize money in US dollars that CONMEBOL sets each edition and that has grown in recent years. The runner-up does not get that Libertadores place, and you can see it in how both teams approach the final.

One Final, One Match

There is no second leg any more: ninety minutes, then thirty minutes of extra time if it is level, then penalties. One side is listed as the home team for administrative reasons only; in practice the ground is neutral and both sets of fans travel.

For betting, that changes everything. A final asks two different questions, and each has its own market:

Illustrative example - not real Bet365 odds. 18+ only.

RESULT AFTER 90 MINUTESODDS
Team A to win2.40
Draw3.10
Team B to win3.20
TO LIFT THE TROPHYODDS
Team A1.65
Team B2.20

The first market, the match result (often shown as 1X2), is settled after ninety minutes: extra time and penalties do not count. If you back Team A and the match finishes 0-0, as the 2025 final did, that bet loses even if your team goes on to win on penalties. The second market, to lift the trophy, includes extra time and penalties: all that matters is who takes the cup home. That is why it pays less - it covers more routes to victory. Before you confirm any bet, check how the market treats extra time.

A note on the maths: divide 1 by each price and add them up, and the match-result example comes to 105.2 per cent. The extra 5.2 is the bookmaker's margin. Every market has one, and the less liquid the market, the bigger it tends to be.

Markets on the Final

Beyond the match result and to lift the trophy, a final usually brings: total goals (over or under a line such as 2.5), both teams to score, anytime goalscorer, cards, and final-specific markets such as will there be extra time? or decided on penalties?. Always read each market's settlement rules: some count ninety minutes only and others include extra time.

Accumulators, Honestly

An accumulator (a parlay, in American terms) puts several selections on one bet slip: the odds multiply and the potential return grows fast. What the slip does not tell you is that you are multiplying the bookmaker's margin too, once for every selection, and that one losing leg sinks the whole bet. It is not a way to win more: it is an entertainment luxury. If you play one, make it a stake you are ready to lose in full.

Five Principles for the Final

1. Set your budget before the match, not during it. A final is emotional, and emotion is a poor adviser with a bet slip in hand. 2. Separate the ninety minutes from the trophy: match result and to lift the trophy are different bets. 3. Check the line-ups before you bet: a late absence moves the prices. 4. Compare the price with the probability you actually believe - if you cannot explain why the price is wrong, it probably is not. Our odds boards and methodology explain how to read them. 5. Bet with a cool head, never what the scoreboard is asking of you.

The Law, Briefly

Online betting rules change from one country to the next, and sometimes from one state or province to the next: some places license local operators, some are served only by international sites, and in some online betting is not permitted at all. Before you open an account, check the law where you live. For the continent's other great cup, see our Copa Libertadores final guide. Nothing on this page is legal or financial advice.
