What Changed in July 2026 (and Why It Matters for Choosing a Site)
Since 1 July 2026, every site serving Irish customers needs a GRAI remote betting licence - the old Revenue regime is gone. The changeover is real enough that Betfred told its Irish customers it was taking a temporary pause at the end of June while transferring to the new system. Three practical consequences for you: credit card betting is banned by law at every site; every site must verify your identity, age and address before you can register (photo ID, proof of address, and a bank statement from the last six months - the same three documents everywhere); and the GRAI publishes a register of licensed operators at grai.ie, which is the authoritative place to check any bookmaker’s current status.
