Demian Maia vs Jake Shields Betting Odds

Demian Maia will look to continue his impressive run when he takes on Jake Shields in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Maia vs Shields on Wednesday evening.

Demian Maia vs Jake Shields is a classic story of two fighters that are currently going in opposite directions.

Demian Maia has been on a tear since making the drop to the Welterweight division in the summer of 2012. Maia has easily gone through the likes of Dong Hyun Kim, Rick Story and Jon Fitch since making the drop, and he is likely just a win or two away from a shot at the Welterweight title.

Jake Shields was the subject of a great deal of hype when he entered the UFC a few years ago, but his results have been underwhelming at best. The former Strikeforce Middleweight champion's results include two losses and a no contest since entering the UFC, and his wins have been lacklustre at best. There is a very real possibility that Shields is fighting for his job against Maia - if Maia rolls over Shields, the former Strikeforce champion could very well find himself being served his walking papers.

Demian Maia is the favorite heading into Wednesday's fight:

Demian Maia, 1.40
Jake Shields, 2.90

Maia has shown greatly improved stand-up and wrestling over the past couple of years, while his BJJ is some of the best in the world. It's hard to see where Shields really has an edge over Maia, and this is reflected in the odds for the fight. Shields has strong BJJ as well, but Maia is in an entirely different league. You would have to think that Shields will try to win this fight on the feet, but, as stated earlier, Maia has greatly improved in this area over the past couple of years.
