Daniel Cormier vs. Volkan Oezdemir - MMA fight matchup and odds. January 20th, 2018. UFC 220 in January features two incredible title fights - Stipe Miocic vs Francis Ngannou and Daniel Cormier vs Volkan Oezdemir.

Both fights feature entrenched champions (we are going to ignore the entire Jon Jones fiasco) looking to defend their titles against relative newcomers. Both of these newcomers have one thing in common - tremendous power.

Volkan Oezdemir is in the right place at the right time, as Jon Jones is out of action due to a positive drug tests, while other challengers like Alexander Gustafsson are hurt. This left an opening for Oezdemir, despite the fact that he hasn't beaten any top competition in the Light Heavyweight division as of yet.

Oezdemir has looked very good during his time in the UFC, though he hasn't fought anybody with the resume of Daniel Cormier. Will Oezdemir blast Cormier with his aggressive striking attack, or will Cormier use his experience to make "No Time" look silly on the ground. Don't forget: Cormier has an iron chin and some of the best wrestling in the UFC.

Oezdemir has fought three times in the UFC, notching a decision victory over Ovince Saint Preux and knockout victories over Jimi Manuwa and Misha Cirkunov.

Daniel Cormier, on the other hand, "lost" his title to Jon Jones earlier in the year, only to get it back after Jones tested positive for a steroid. A win over Oezdemir would likely set up a rematch between Cormier and Gustafsson later in the year.

Remember, this is a 5 round championship fight.

In my opinion, this fight goes one of two ways:

1. Oezdemir scores the flash early knockout

2. Cormier weathers the early storm and eventually grinds out Oezdemir on the ground (see his fights against Anthony Johnson)
