The inaugural edition of the Canadian Grand Prix was held in 1967 at Mosport Park. However, it was not until 1967 that the Grand Prix became a part of the Formula One Calendar. Popularity:

The 2005 edition of the Canadian Grand Prix was the most watched Formula One Grand Prix in the world. Moreover, the race was also the world's third most popular sporting event, behind only the Super Bowl and UEFA Champions League.


Circuits:

Over the years, different circuits have been used for the Canadian Grand Prix. These include the Mosport Park Circuit, the Circuit Mont-Tremblant, and the Montreal Circuit. In the past, the Grand Prix was alternatively held at the Mosport Park Circuit and the Circuit Mont-Tremblant. However, safety concerns led to it being moved to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 1978.

Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is the primary motor-racing circuit in Canada. The circuit is located on Notre Dame Island in Montreal. Canadian Grand Prix is one of the most popular sporting events in Canada and worldwide.

The circuit has a total length of 4.361 km. The Canadian Grand Prix includes 70 laps of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Therefore, the total length of the Grand Prix is 305.270 km.


2023 Winner:

Max Verstappen, driving for Red Bull Racing-Honda, dominantly won the race ahead of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen had the pole position and held the lead for 70 laps. This was his sixth win of the season and fourth consecutive one.

Max Verstappen also won the 2022 edition of the Canadian Grand Prix.

Among Drivers, the two all-time Formula One greats lead the charts. Sir Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher have been the most successful racing car drivers at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Michael Schumacher:

The 7-time world Champion Michael Schumacher has won the Canadian Grand Prix 7 times as well. He won the Grand Prix in 1994, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2004.

Sir Lewis Hamilton:

Just like the other F1 great, Sir Lewis Hamilton has also won the Canadian Grand Prix 7 times. He won 2007, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019 editions of the Canadian GP.

Nelson Piquet:

The Brazilian racing car driver and three-time formula one champion, Nelson Piquet, has won the Canadian Grand Prix thrice. He won titles in 1982, 1984, and 1991.

Other winners:

Drivers like Pedro Rodriguez, Jacky Ickx, Jackie Stewart, Alan Jones, Ayrton Senna, and Sebastian Vettel have won the Canadian Grand Prix two times.

Constructors:

Ferrari has been the most successful constructor among constructors, with 14 wins. On the other hand, McLaren has won 13 titles while Williams has won 4 times. In recent times, Red Bull and Mercedes have enjoyed success as constructors. Mercedes has won the Canadian Grand Prix 4 times while Red Bull has won it three times.

Engine Manufacturers:

Ferrari-powered engines have been successful at the Canadian GP 14 times, while ford has won 10 times. Other than them, Mercedes' engines have won the Canadian Grand Prix 10 times.
