Ex Real Madrid coach and now at Bayern Munich, Carlo Ancelotti, in a serious pose. The year is 2017. Bayern Munich versus Real Madrid - this was the game everyone was looking forward to after the draw was made.

At the start of the season, many experts were predicting that these two sides would face off in the Champions League final.

Unfortunately for both, they haven't been able to avoid each other and one European heavyweight is going to be out of the Champions League at this stage.

Will it be Bayern Munich or Real Madrid?

Only time will tell, but here are a few stats that may help you make up your mind if you are having a bet on the tie.

Bayern had a surprising loss in their last outing against Hoffenheim. That 1-0 defeat ended a 20 game unbeaten streak for the Bavarian side.

As much as a shock as that was, it's probably not a good idea to read too much into a single result.

Bayern haven't lost at home in this season's Champions League and hammered Arsenal 10-2 on aggregate in the last round.

If you fancy them to dominate Madrid in a similar fashion, you can back a home win at a price of 4/5.

Los Blancos have already drawn three games in this season's competition, so the draw at a price of 14/5 could be the ideal bet for some. Real also won at home and away in the last round, beating Napoli 3-1 in both games.

You can back them to get the away win here at a price of 16/5. With both sides in prolific goal-scoring form, the 'both teams to score' market looks like an obvious place to look.

Even though it is odds on, 8/13 still looks a good price for both sides to hit the back of the net. The last time these two sides played in the Champions League, Real won this fixture 4-0.

Despite the fact that this was in 2014, many will fancy a repeat result. If you are one of these people, you can back that score at a price of 28/1.

We think the score from the 2012 semi-final game in Munich is much more likely. Bayern won that tie 2-1 and that result is available to back at a price of 15/2.

The closeness of this tie is demonstrated in the 'to qualify' market. Bayern are priced at 4/6, while Real are at a price of 5/4.

Our money is on Bayern to do a job on the La Liga leaders and win the game by two goals to one. That will leave the tie nicely poised for the return-leg in Madrid.
