Athletic Bilbao Favourites To Win At Home Against Sporting Gijon

Spanish La Liga Primera action will continue on Monday as Athletic Bilbao is set to place host to Sporting Gijon.

Surprisingly enough, Sporting Gijon currently sits ahead of Athletic Bilbao in the standings. As of this moment, Sporting Gijon has a record of 2-3-3, which is good for 9 points, while Athletic Bilbao has a record of 2-2-4 (8 points). Both of these teams are in real danger of relegation if they don't turn things around, which is why Monday's match is of such importance for both teams.

Both teams are coming off of draws in their most previous matches - Athletic Bilbao played to a 2-2 draw against Deportivo, while Sporting Gijon played to a 3-3 draw against Granada.

The last meeting between Athletic Bilbao and Sporting Gijon took place in March of 2012, when the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in Athletic Bilbao.

Sporting Gijon has been very strong on the road this year, posting a record of 2-1-1, while Athletic Bilbao has only managed one win at home. Athletic Bilbao has conceded at least one goal in each of their three home games so far this season.

Here are the odds for Monday's match:

Athletic Bilbao, 1.55
Draw, 4.00
Sporting Gijon, 6.00

As you can see, Athletic Bilbao, by virtue of their home field advantage, is the favourite to win on Monday. Sporting Gijon, however, is a very live underdog to win. A wager on either a win for Sporting Gijon or a draw taking place might not be a bad idea.

According to the bookmakers, the likeliest outcome of Monday's match is a 1-0 victory for Athletic Bilbao.
