Man City vs Aston Villa 04/03/2013
Published on March 3rd, 2013 3:04 pm ESTAston Villa will be hosting Manchester City on Monday evening in a game that has great significance for both teams.
Manchester City currently occupies the #2 spot in the Premier League. Catching Manchester United is pretty much a lost cause at this point, but Man City needs a win on Monday evening to give themselves some breathing room over the teams that are chasing them, as Tottenham and Chelsea are both within a few points of the club. As it stands right now, Man City has a record of 16-8-3 for a total of 56 points. Tottenham, fresh off of a big win over Arsenal earlier in the day, currently has 54 points, while Chelsea sits in fourth place with a total of 52 points.
As mentioned, this will also be a big game for Aston Villa. Aston Villa currently sits in 18th in the Premier League with a record of 5-9-13. Wigan Athletic FC, who has the #17 spot in the league, have the same number of points as Aston Villa. Aston Villa desperately wants to avoid relegation, and a big win over Man City would give them a bit of breathing room.
Up until this point in the season, Man City has scored 50 goals and allowed just 24. Aston Villa, on the other hand, has scored 26 goals while allowing 52.
Man City is 2-2-1 in their last five days, with wins coming over Fulham and Chelsea. Aston Villa, on the other hand, is 1-2-2 in their last five, with their lone win over that time coming against West Ham United.
