Overeem vs Silva Betting Line
Published on January 16th, 2013 7:51 pm ESTAlistair Overeem will attempt to earn himself a shot at the UFC Heavyweight title when he takes on Antonio Silva in the co-main event of UFC 156 on Saturday, February 2nd.
Overeem had been promised a shot at the winner of Junior dos Santos vs Cain Velasquez, but decided to take a fight in the interim to keep himself busy. The UFC decided that the best fight for Overeem at this point is Antonio Silva. If Overeem wins at UFC 156, he will be the next in line to fight Cain Velasquez.
Overeem last fought at UFC 141: Lesnar vs Overeem. Alistair made quick work of Brock Lesnar, destroying the former UFC champion in just a few short minutes. Brock Lesnar would announce his retirement from the UFC after the fight.
The Alistair Overeem Express was derailed after he tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone. Overeem was forced to wait an entire year (from the date of his last fight) before applying for a license, which was eventually granted.
Antonio Silva, on the other hand, is coming off an impressive victory over Travis Browne at UFC on FX: Browne vs Bigfoot. Prior to that, Silva had lost two straight fights against Cain Velasquez and Daniel Cormier. Silva also has wins over Fedor Emelianenko and Andrei Arlovski under his belt.

This fight is pretty straightforward in terms of the approaches that both fighters will take. Overeem wants to turn this fight into a striking battle, while Silva will want to take it to the ground.

Alistair "Demolition Man" Overeem is a big favorite in this fight. Here are the current betting odds as of this moment:
Alistair Overeem, -375
Antonio Silva, +285
These odds mean that a $375 bet on Overeem would yield a total profit of $100, while a $100 bet on Silva would yield a total profit of $285.
